Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is wrestling dangerous? From USA Wrestling Guide
	•	“Wrestling is a contact sport and injuries can occur. As would be expected, wrestling has more injuries than tennis and swimming, but most wrestling injuries are minor, consisting of sprains and strains. Wrestling has fewer serious injuries than soccer, football, basketball or ice hockey. There is a lesser chance of getting seriously hurt when wrestling than when riding in a car, skateboarding or riding a bike.”
	•	Consider this: Every match your wrestler competes in there are a minimum of 3 and most cases 5 adults watching the match for anything that could result in an injury. (1 or  2 coaches per wrestler, and a referee)

Q.  When is the Youth Wrestling Season?
	•	Preseason tournaments will start in October 1st. The first official regular season tournament is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We will start training September 19th.

Q.  When and where are CH Youth wrestling practices held?
	•	Monday, Tuesday & Thursday depending on skill level and from 6pm-7:30pm or 7:30pm-9pm depending on age.  Practices will be held in the Collins Hill HS wrestling room where summer wrestling camp was held.

Q.  When are the wrestling tournaments held?
	•	There is a wrestling tournament every Saturday from the first weekend in October until the first week or so in March.  Weigh-in begins at 7am for kids 10 & under and 11:30am for kids 11-14.  Each tournament session usually takes 4-5 hours and is double elimination.

Q.  Do I have to attend every tournament?
	•	No, you can attend as many or as few tournaments as you like. To continue to improve at wrestling takes time on the mat so the best way to improve the fastest is to compete as often as possible.

Q.  When will Collins Hill start registration?
	•	Pre-Registration is available now on the CH youth wrestling website www.mywrestler.net. By pre-registering you will be kept up to date on the CH youth wrestling club. Registration fees are not due until October 1st and you will not be completely registered until your registration fees are received and processed.

Q. What are the fees associated with joining the club?
	•	The cost to join the Collins Hill Wrestling Club is 125.00. This includes all the fees associated with running the club and the USA Wrestling card. The USA wrestling card is required to compete at tournaments and provides a 1 million dollar policy that covers your wrestler in the event he or she is injured. The only other club expense is the team uniform. The uniform consists of the singlet, a t-shirt, shorts, sweat shirt and sweat pants. The cost for the uniform is 75.00

Q. What fees are associated with competition?
	•	There are entry fees for all tournaments and they vary based on a number of things. Team Georgia tournaments entry fees are 15.00 per wrestler / per weight class. You can enter the tournament in 2 weight classes, your true weight class and the one above. For instance if your wrestler weighs 39.5 lbs she can enter the 40 lb and 45 lb weight class in her age group. National level competition is a little more expensive, but there are MUCH better trophies and medals.

Q. Is there anything else my wrestler needs to practice or compete?
	•	There is only 1 other required uniform part that we do not provide, the wrestling shoes. If you need shoes please use our sponsor Ken Chertow, the team get a percentage of purchases and he has some of the best prices. Headgear is recommended but not required.
